Director: Hayo Miyazaki
 

Born in Tokyo in 1941. Studied economics and politics. In 1963, he joined Toei animation studios as chief animator, where he worked on an adaptation of Treasure Island and a TV series based on Heide. He made his debut as director in 1978 and scored an international hit. In 1985, he founded Ghibli studios. Spirited Away is his first feature-length film.

 

Spirited Away

Synopsis: Whilst traveling through a tunnel, ten-year-old Chihiro suddenly finds herself in a fantastic, incredible world, where all sorts of weird things happen. It is a world of gods and lesser gods, goblins and ogres: no place for human beings. Chihiro's presence is tolerated on two conditions: First, she must work for a mean witch named Yubaba and secondly, to change her name, i.e. to abandon her human nature.
